So here’s the deal: I love television. I am what some would call a “television junkie,” and rightfully so. It is not out of the ordinary for me to spend 15 hours a week watching television during the regular season. As you can imagine, this becomes difficult when one has a job or is a student but I’m recently unemployed (lucky me!) and have an ungodly amount of free time that isn’t otherwise taken up by the job search. This has led me to the following experiment, one that requires a lot of time, determination, and DVR space.

Mission: To watch as many “primetime” television shows a week as humanly possible.

I say “primetime” because the shows I watch will air during regular “primetime” hours, i.e. 8/7 to 11/10 CST. (I live in Texas, placing me in the Central Time Zone. The times listed on the schedule post are for Central time, so keep that in mind.) However, I will watch shows from a variety of networks, not just the usual ABC, NBC, CBS, etc.

Purpose: There are tons of television blogs on the internet, so why read this one?Simply put, the purpose of this blog is different than the others. It is an experiment to find out if I can really watch this much television. Remember that I am the sole blogger here, the one person given the task to watch every single show on the schedule. If anything, it should be entertaining to read if I lose my mind by the first month.

Rules:

  1. For each week, I will watch the shows listed on the schedule.
  2. More shows may be added to the schedule at the recommendation of readers or at the start of a new season.
  3. If I take on a new show in the lineup, I must start watching from the beginning. This is out of respect to the writers, directors, and crew who work hard on each episode. This will only be done through legals means, including DVDs and internet websites with the legal authority to host the show (Hulu or the show’s network website, for example).
  4. I will post episode recaps on Wednesday and Saturday of each week whenever I can. This trying-to-find-a-job thing is hard.

Restrictions:

  1. My cable package does not include Showtime so I cannot honor recommendations for series currently on Showtime, but HBO is fair game.
  2. I will not watch live reality competition shows like American Idol and Dancing With the Stars. The current list has 21.5 hours of television scheduled and watching a multi-night, multi-hour show with only ten minutes of relevant information is a waste of time.
  3. I will not watch Two and a Half Men. I refuse to watch something that is basically a televised version of Charlie Sheen’s sexual escapades. (And the answer to your question is yes, I did watch all of Denise Richards: It’s Complicated. You know where my loyalty lies.)

Disclaimers:

  1. I am actively seeking employment. In the very fortunate event that I find a job, the ability the recap every show on time may be hindered (Thursday is going to be a big one after all!). Stick with me!
  2. I am not a television critic, just a lover of the medium. I’m learning as I go along.
